It was the first official snowfall that had this Sow Brown Bear with her twin cubs moving toward higher ground . She had spent the summer raising her cubs probably along a salmon stream in the low lying areas of the Kenai Pennisula. A great place during the summer months with the abundance of berries and salmon , she has obviously done a good job of getting herself and her offspring the fat reserves they would need to sleep through the winter . Higher ground and slopes facing north are a ideal place to den up for this long period of hibernation. Bears will spend ideally half of their life’s sleeping or in a state of hibernation. The ability for a bear to slow down their metabolism is truly amazing
