A young Trumpeter swan drinks from the glacier fed Kenai Lake . Once almost hunted to extinction, numbers have increased with great success. Growing up here on Kenai Lake and throughout my life , I’ve only witnessed these beautiful waterfowl for a little over seven years . They started wintering in numbers of over one hundred in the winter of 2016-2017 which is the most I’ve ever seen . Since that winter their numbers are down significantly, probably because they have choose elsewhere to winter , not because the overall population has dropped . Very nice subjects to photograph during the various seasons.
