A drive to Anchorage in December was will worth it when I purposely left the city before sunset. Just past Potter Marsh I waited for the correct moment for these things to develop. It is not always the time of day that makes a great photo, it’s the cloud formation that developed on this particular afternoon that dissected the suns rays to make this a good photo. Some will say it is timing and some will call it opportunistic. After 66 years of watching this sunset and almost everyone has come in Alaska , it’s a fact that when you live somewhere for this long of a period things will naturally happen and being there and waiting for the time is all part of calling yourself a Alaskan . It makes the midnight sun story all the more invigorating. The golden hour hits the whole world each day and everyday , being there is all part of the equation.
